This is ONE of the best ideas EVER!
Because there are so many NEXT BIG THINGS coming our way and it is so hard to keep up with all of it, hence a most excellent medium………..the bloggers world.
The Next Big Thing gives published and not yet published writers a chance to share their work and then pass the baton, as it were. This continues from week to week. It’s a wonderful opportunity and I am thrilled to be a part of it.
Many heartfelt thanks to the wonderful Sherri Bessi for the invitation to take part in ‘The Next Big Thing’. Please take a look at her beautifully penned and all inspiring, blog of the year 2012; The other side of Ugly http://theothersideofugly.com/ – Sheri’s blog site.
Just a girl trying to be the light that she already is…… Join Sherri on her amazing journey and her enlightened ability to see beauty in all that life throws at her.
There are a series of questions to be answered–the same for everyone who takes part in The Next Big Thing. Here they are and here are my answers:
1. What is the working title of your book?
I write this book with the intention of releasing it as a three part series.
Part one Veiled ~ Secrets
Part Two Veiled ~ Deception
Part Three Veiled ~ Truths
2. Where did the idea come from for the book?
I was reading an absolute heart breaking article/story in the paper about a beautiful, sweet baby girl that was in desperate need for a heart transplant. She was born with multiple heart defects consisting of two holes in her heart. Sadly this sweet baby never made it to her first birthday.
I was so touched by her heart breaking story. I felt entirely overwhelmed at how unfair life truly was. How cruel it was that this child, like many others, are not even given a fair chance to live a natural full life. I was moved to the point of writing a story; her story.
I molded and penned a character from her. And she became my leading female protegee with just a little something extra, because she was such an extraordinary little girl.
This little angel suffers but she survives (in my world) She goes on to live, find love, grows old. My compassion, my empathy fed the idea and the new beginnings of the Veiled series……..
And so the seed to my story was planted and has been thriving strongly from there, ever since.
3. What genre does your book fall under?
Young Adult fantasy/paranormal Fiction
4. Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
For the leading roles; Okay, so this is HYPOTHETICAL and I base this solely on looks of the actor and how closely they match my own vision of my characters. (I have included images to help aid the visual)
Lailah Wilson (the leading female) I envision her being played by either Alexandria DeBerry or Blake Lively, the latter being my main preference (natural blonde hair with crystal Blue eyes, girl next door sort of look)……
Lailah is the younger Sister to Michael Wilson and Cousin to Lauren Edison;
Caleb Whitlock; is slightly more difficult as I envision him in a few male actors. I would go with either Logan Lerman or Matt Lanter, again preferring the latter of the two. (Black/dark hair, blue eyes, boyish looks but firmly built, he is the leading man after all)…………
Caleb is Lailah’s love interest, he is also Cousin to Jennifer and Brett Bennett;
Other main characters include;
Michael Wilson (played by Chace Crawford) Lailah’s older brother and Cousin to Lauren Edison he is also Jennifer Bennett’s love interest;
Lauren Edison (played by Lucy Hale) Lauren is cousin to Michael & Lailah Wilson and Is Brett Bennett’s love interest;
Jennifer Bennett (played by Deborah Woll) Jennifer is sister to Brett Bennett and Cousin to Caleb Whitlock, Jennifer is also Michael Wilson’s love interest
Brett Bennett (played by Aaron Johnson) Brett is big brother to Jennifer Bennett and cousin to Caleb Whitlock, he is also Lauren’s love interest;
5. What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
Veiled is yet to be completed, a possible synopsis for part one would go;
Part One; Veiled ~ Secrets
“Not is all as it seems in Willow Falls; in amongst a tangled web of hidden secrets and lies; two find they are connected much deeper than they ever knew before, but does true love always prevail?”
6. What is the longer synopsis of your book?
Again because Veiled is yet to be completed, a possible synopsis for part one would go;
“In a quaint picture-perfect suburb, all is not as it appears to be. Willow Falls is a small gated community tucked within the charming town of Grandmont. Willow falls is renowned for its infinite wealth and its high maintained flawless beauty. And for many generations, the Falls has been home to three of Grandmont’s most influential and well respected families. To the outside world, their lives where impeccable; picture book perfect in every way. If only they all truly knew.
These three families and their ancestors have been hiding many deep rooted secrets, secrets which must never get out. Secrets which if ever revealed would not only expose who they truly are but will also bring the world to its knees.
They are all the masters in the art of deception. Which leaves the question; how close to home are the enemies really?
Destiny sits subliminally; patiently awaiting the new generation of celestial blood to come off age. It may turn out that, fate has had a play in everything all along. Each and every moment, building up and leading to this one extraordinary generation, calling each of them forward to play their own part, in a very significant combined destiny.
Willing or not their time has come.
7. Is your book self-published or represented by an agency?
Veiled has not been fully completed yet. And it is still in its first draft. I am continually looking into the best avenues in which to take this series.
However, either way I’ll be overly elated that it will one day be shared with you all. Whether it is as an eBook, paper back or hard back, it will still be the same story, feed and nurtured by my passion to just write and bring something as small as an idea to life.
8. How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
I began writing Veiled in July of this year. And I am now, what I believe to be, over half way through, at this present moment in time. Progress is going fantastically, with new ideas building to it every day.
9. Who or What inspired you to write this book?
A few things inspired me. One would the above picture, a young couple embracing so lovingly.
Secondly my inspiration was drawn from my own a near death experience when I was twelve. I have experienced being on that very brink of losing your life and its scary as hell.
Lastly I was inspired by my love for a good old tangled up love story especially the paranormal kind. But rather using the over used vampire or Werewolves I wanted to use Angels. I love the build up of the classic will they? and won’t they? scenario’s .So I thought ‘why not write my own?’ and make it how I won’t it to be, end it how I want it to end. (just to add I dislike predictable and obvious endings) but I’m still none the less a sucker for a happy ending.
10. What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
I want my readers to make a connection with the characters, bringing them to life using ‘their’ own imaginations. I want them to loose themselves in my characters and their story. So that when it ends they want to know what happens next. Leaving them intrigued enough, to enjoy imagining ways in how the story could continue on, whilst they wait for the next book to be published.
I love writing and I take great pleasure when readers enjoy my work. It inspires me to divulged deeper and take my characters further into their world.
I want my readers to read Veiled and come away on reflection. For example; there are some scenes that will touch even the most blasé of hearts. I want my readers feeling a sense of compassion and empathy themselves. I want them to really feel the emotions of what it is, to be well, just human.
